205 Xs Questions

Recommended Posts

hello all i have a 205 xs 1988.

at the moment it needs a new solex 32-34zs carb mines all warn and wont set up correctly. can you still buy these brand new? if not does anybody have one for sale it good working order (i cant post in the wanted yet).

my plans for the car are changing the bottom end to a 1.6 8v out of a saxo vtr / 206.

if i can get one i want a 106 rallye 1.3 head to polish and port. then run webbers with a 284 degree cam.

if i cant get the rallye head just gonna run my standard head, intake and carb.

a 4-2-1 manifold and group n system.

do the 1400 heads just fit straight on to the 1600 blocks or do they need modified.

cheers joe

Sounds like a alot of work and mis-matching. The 1600 heads are better than the 1400's. If I was you I would just stick a VTR engine in on carbs if you really want a 1600 on carbs. The ali block XS engine is a belter though. Check out swordfish's XT track car with a XS engine approx ~120hp or Ross's 5 door TU engined car with nearly 150hp!

A fair bit, as far as bare blocks go there isn't much in it compared to a iron block XU

I think he meant the 16v TU is not far off the xu in weight

the 8v tu is easy for me to lift, the 16v I cant get it off the ground

I've got an Xs solex carb going spare, I rebuilt it all with new seals and gaskets before removing the engine and it was running great. I'd take £50 posted for it, let me know if you're interested.

The bottom ends are near enough the same size, there can't be that much extra weight in the head...

Hmmmm

My first post was 1.6 8v tu vs alloy tu 8v

Then when Aly said about weight I was comparing the 1.6 8v tu and 8v xu

And the last comment 1.6 8v vs 1.6 16v both tu's.

I think there's around 20Kg difference between the Ali & Iron 8v TU's.

The Rallye had an Iron Block mate, it's the XS that has the Alloy Block :)

1.3 205 and 106 Rallye alloy

1.4 205 Rallye iron

106 1.6 xs iron
