I think the bumpstops are missing come to think of it!

The exhausts varied some had centre boxes some didn't, might have varied on year or engine can't remember.

Amen to that Minigibbo, don't come up very often at all.

Perphaps this is the case.

And i've been reading on backpressure and i withdraw my comment, it seems I was very wrong about it.

Over here the max db allowed for 1.4's is about 89db if i'm not mistaken.

But factory stock i've actually never seen a car without middle silencer over here, not even older sports models.

But since the uk ones didn't have, I might as well get a straight pipe and pump up the volume ahahahah

I think there is some truth behind the backpressure theory! I have had both - a straight through and a centre silencer, on both occasions I had a sportex backbox fitted. I got fed up with the drone from the straight through pipe and resorted back to my standard centre section with midbox. I did notice that there was a significant increase in performance, especially on long climbs. My car is fitted with a phase 3 Newman cam, a TI motorsport 4-2-1 and twin 40 dellortos, so perhaps that is why it was a significant difference between the two. I now have a CSC marimitte exhaust system with two silencers, bought it from a chap on here. If you ever get the chance of a CSC exhaust then take it!

Regarding the 266 brake upgrade - yes this should fit straight on, providing that it is still base model/1.6 gti hubs that your car has. I would also change the master cylinder to the one that has number 23 stamped on the underside of it. This is the setup that I have and cannot fault it!

Cheers

Yer im getting the lot for the brake upgrade. In the end i want a 284 degree cam in it. You need to take the head off dont you of is there any way to get it in by tilting the engine or can you get it out by removing the battery? I want one but havnt realy got the £200 to pay for one unless anybody has any lying about going cheap hint hint. To be honest i just want a cam that makes the car tick over lumpy i think it sounds awsome.

You need to remove the head to change the camshaft. The head bolts hold the rocker arms on, which need to be removed to get the cam out if I remember correctly! If you are doing it yourself then get a Haynes manual it tells you all that you need to know apart from how to set the timing for your new camshaft..

Cheers

i think the cam comes with some sort of instructions on how to do it correctly.

tdr has fitted a pt02 on his xs engine he might give a better idea on how to do it

right i am pretty stuck now i have a different carb on and the only way to get it to tick over smooth is to run it at 1500 rpm. if it drops to 1000 or lower it tickes over lumpy. just been watching a vid of the 205xs rally car on here of the engine after its been cammed and it sounds exactly like mine. mine runs smooth when driving and is fast well for a 1400. also its a tad thursty which is making me think twice if it has been cammed?

my reg is F367PCX for anybody who has owned this car or has and info on it?

Adjust the timing with a timing light then set the idle.
