106 Gti Wiring Help Needed :/

Recommended Posts

johniban

Just dropped a 106 gti engine into my 205 rallye and im on the wiring part of the conversion..

I have got the engine turning over witch is a bonus but i need to find out what wires are what to get it up and running, i know theres only about 5 wires needed, i have a multimeter so i can find the switch lives and permanant lives from the cars loom, but i need to know what colour wires or wire numbers do what on the 106 engine loom.

does someone have a pin/plug guide for the fuel pump relay and the engine ecu? if i had that i could then easily find what wires i need to join up.

thanks

ive spend a good couple of hours looking, can find topics but not what im after. i just need a simple pin out of the ecu plug and fuel relay so i can splice them up to the 205 wires

that doesnt make too much sence to me without knowing what each component on the diagram is. but thanks

just kind of thinking, the 106 has a fuel cut of switch. that has stayed with the 106 when removing the engine, wont the 106 ecu need that to be bypassed like the gti6 conversion? but it is part of the 106 body loom

no.

you dont need to know what all the components are on the diagram above to get it running, as barely any of them arewired to the car, just in the engine loom.

30 across the top is permanent live

15 is the switched live.

both of these connect to the double relay, connect the fuel pump wire from the relay to the car, bolt the earth to the gearbox, and you're done bar making the gauges work and connecting the starter motor, which is not on the diagram above.

ok so on that diagram is component 'k46' the double relay? im sure theres not that many wires or pins on the double relay but ill check.

and 'a45/a52' the engine ECU ?

so if im reading that right, pin 11,2,and 8 on the double relay needs a permanent live. then pin 14 on the relay needs a switched live.

Spot on, that diagram is a late 97 on version, you would be wise to confirm the wire functions but that is straightforward.

All double relays have 15 pins, most only use a dozen or so wires.

Haynes manual would have more specific data btw, that's a bit more basic as its from Autodata.

ive got the 205 hayens manual, i have purchased a 106 hayes of ebay but waiting for it to turn up, i just thought maybe someone had specific data in terms of wire colours to wire colours so i could get it going while im waiting, but i should be ok with that diagram

you can never go on colours as there are many wires of the same colour....

Always go by number.

the numbers on the wires are all rubbed off and worn away, i guess i will just have to buzz them from the relay connecter to the other side to see witch ones are witch to join up

i now have fuel witch is good, and turns over but no spark :(

just been out there with the multimeter, theres four wires on the coil, the black wire for the suppressor, green wire witch is a good earth, then thick blue and thick white witch have good continuity to the engine ecu,

i have tested to see if im getting power to the coil on either of the blue or white wire when cranking but im getting nothing.

im begging to think that the ecu has locked itself, but i would of thought it would have stopped the fuel pump priming too if that was so.

i may have to either buy an unlocked ecu, or try and remove and wire up the transponder ring and loom to the ecu

none of those will be a direct earth, you'll have a switched power which should be live on ignition/cranking, two trigger wires to the ecu.

i thought i should have a permanant 12v but i wasnt sure, theres only 4 wires, two trigger wires that defo come from the ecu as a buzzed them with the multimeter, thin black wire, witch is the supressor bolted to the head, and a thick green wire witch is showing its going to earth, im guessing that wire that is going to earth should be the 12v?

yeah, looking at the diagram above if the fuel pump runs then you should also have power to the injectors and coil.

what year+month is the donor?

i think the fuel pump only primes, when switching on ignition the fuel pump primes,

but i dont think it runs when cranking,

the donor is a single ecu plug 's' redge 106 gti

i gave that thick green wire on the coil a 12v direct from the battery, it makes the fuel pump run constantly, witch makes me think that the green wire on the coil needs an ignition switched live instead of a permanant live as it is on the fuel pump circuit too,

it still didnt start with that wire given 12v,

sounds like a locked ecu.

but the fuel pump primes when the ignition is switched on? surely it wouldnt if the ecu was locked
