405 V6 Conversion

I know no one likes to share their secrets, but anyone have any tips or hints? One of my biggest headaches will be converting the 405 back to manual from auto after having been converted from manual to auto, but i'm guessing arb will be a problem along with rad/ac/fans/hyd clutch etc. From memory it was 2cm out of the driveshafts? I'm on a deadline so anything will be appreciated. Cheers.

gear change will be least of your worries i would think, thats all quite self contained. clutch isnt too bad really just a bit kf fabricatoon.i would highly reccomend building a full hydraulic clutch not a cable hydraulic mash up.

 

PM goliath he's dont a 406 v6.

George is on Holiday at the mo, but I did help with the 405 so know a little of the details.

 

As Ali said, clutch is relatively straightforward, mate a 206 master to the D9 pipework and slave cylinder.

 

Gear shifting is very easy, just needs a bracket to secure the 406 shift lever assembly.

 

Mounts are as per 205 for the upper and transmission, lower is a case of fit engine and make up to suit.

 

Shafts I don't recall how much was removed from each but it was not an equal amount.

 

Cooling is straightforward, use a VW rad and all the 406 pipework, trim the front panel so rad clears the exhaust manifold.

 

 

 

ARB was a problem, so far that has just been dispensed with, transplant vehicle wasn't AC so that wasn't installed, space to retain the condenser looks slim, AC pump IIRC did clear though.


I'm sure George will be along before too long to clarify some more bits.

What he said, basically!

 

Rad is a mk3 golf vr6 one. Shafts needed about 2cm one side and 2.5 the other but i forget the exact measurements.

 

Anyway back to my holiday :P

Thanks for the replies. Yeah has ac and want to keep so will add to complexity of conversion. Arb sounds like will have to get creative. Cheers.
