Mi16 Phase 1 Fuel Pump Wiring

Recommended Posts

Stuey

Hi guys,

Just had an issue with the 405 breaking down due to a bad connection on the fuel pump earth. I've fixed it with an aux earth lead to the pump going straight to the chassis, but now I'd like to just reseat and check all the connectors in the pump circuit.

I've done the ones under the back seat, but going forward from here, where are the next junctions in the pump wires? At the fuse box?

Thanks

Stuey

Ain't one of the fuses in the black relay box in front of the right side strut tower for the fuel pump?

Can't remember fully, but think one is for pump, one is for other injection stuff, and one is for lambda?

One of the realys in that black bos is also for fuel pump.

Yep, on our (Oz spec) cars one is the main injection relay, one for the fuel pumps, and the other for the air con compressor. But I thought I'd read the wires go to the main fuse box first. I just want to go over each connection in the pump circuit.

Even if I could find the earth block. From the factory manual it seems to show the pumps are earthed to a connector with five terminals, if I'm reading the diagram right. Not the brown one on top of the tank, but another one.

Ahh, B1ack, it does look like the power wire (76A) goes all the way to the black fuse box as opposed to the main one as I was reading it. So that's ok, but anyone know where the earth is on the chassis?

Haynes describes the earthing points for the Phase II but not I.

Thought the earthing point is somewhere in the back, take out rear seat bottom and maybe some of the plastic covers on the side to take a look? If not it might be back in the trunk.

Cheers, I'll have a poke around on the weekend if no one comes up with anything definitive. I looked around the tank porthole under the seat but the wires just disappear over towards the LH side seat bottom, under the metal.

OK, so there's one on the back panel adjacent to the LHS tail lamp, but this doesn't earth the pump as I'm pretty sure it's either wire M70 or M76.

I found another earth point on the bottom of the inside of the LHS A pillar, under the plastic trim. Again, no M70/76. So I had a bit more of a poke around under the back seat and it looks like the wires go forward in the centre of the car, on the RHS of the centre 'tunnel'. I'm guessing the earth must be either near the console or around the steering column somewhere.

Can try to take a look next time I'm in the garage how it's on my T16, but I keep forgetting stuff :)
