Automatic Kickdown

Recommended Posts

This question relates to the automatic gearbox in my 305 which im hoping is the same automatic fitted to the 205, i have a manual saying its a ZF 4 speed automatic, is that what the 205 uses?

At the moment the 305 will not kick down into a lower gear if the accelerator is pushed down to the floor, in any other automatic ive driven its had a kickdown, initially i thought the 305 may have pre dated this feature, but if i recall correctly the owners manual mentioned that its there.

Any advice on what causes the kickdown not to work?

The 205 auto gearbox has a kickdown cable that goes from the front of the gearbox to the throttle on the carb. The cable might need adjustment.

Thanks Ryan, the battery was flat the other day so i took a look at the cable when it was out, it just got snagged a bit on the carb, pushed it back into place and it has kickdown.

Really does help to have it, i had come to accept the fact the old 305 was just a bit slow, but with the kickdown working it actually is quite nippy, it dropped down into the lower gear and held onto it nearly up to 5,000 rpm, its not going to scare modern diesels but it can overtake tractors now
