Cigarette Lighter Ampage Question.

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have bought one of these to fit to my car.

My existing OE one does not work which I plan to fix but I quite like the idea of fitting this hidden away in the centre console so that I can charge two things at once.

I plan to run it directly off the battery and whilst there is a built in fuse in the unit I would like to add an additional one next to the battery, like this one link .

My question is, what sort of amp fuse do I need to use? Will having two chargers change the amount I need to fuse it by?

Sorry, I don’t remember much about electronics from school.

Thanks

Jonny

What size cable will you be running as it is that witch will determine what fuse you use?

I will use whatever is best suited. How many amps will the two fag lighters need?

Thanks

Are you going to run fag lighters off them or just charge stuff?

std is 10 amps iirc

more than plenty to charge things with.

On last road trip we did, had

1 satnav

1 road angel

2 mobiles

1 psp charger

1 pocket tv things

all on the go at the same time.

Looked a mess mind you with all that cable but nowhere near 10amps

I reckon i could have added one of those 12v to 150w mains inverters too for he laptop without any issues.

Spec the cabling for future use...the cig lighter socket itself if you plan to use this as the hub would be lowest point then. just remember to fuse it the same as the cig lighter itself.
