Matrix Drain Pipe

Recommended Posts

dobboy

I changed my coolant last week. Today I started it and had it running for 10-15 mins or so in the sunshine.

Put it back in the garage and noticed small puddle under it, but it looked as though it was from behind/around the main subframe area.

Jacked it up, couldnt see any leaks and remembered there is an exhaust? pipe from the matrix on the bulkhead.

I'm thinking the puddle has came from there.

What makes water come out this pipe?

Cheers

You sure it's not the expansion tank overflow pipe you're talking about?

I thought the drain from the heater box was only on AC equipped cars?

Mmmmm. You've got me thinking.

But I think there is/was an inch dia pipe, flat at one end, behind heat shield on the bulkhead.

Pretty sure the water wasn't from my overflow.

Just went and checked Anthony, it definitely has, right bang centre of car behind exhaust heat shield.

I started it today up on stands and ran it up to temp and no leaks.

Strange.

The only thing i can think of is that the car is sitting more forward than it was when i did the coolant change, and maybe the dampness i seen yesterday is residue. I thought maybe because the car is on stands the drain isn't working because of the angle, so i dropped it and still nothing.

Feck knows, but i also changed the coolant on my mini and everywhere i go i see a patch of dampness too...... even at the local shop.

But all water levels seem good on both cars.

I know i'm a creature of habit but this is getting a tad spooky, but more so very annoying.
