Recommended Posts

Whats the highest cc you can get out of a xu9 block with keeping the standard rods an pistons so just changin the crank?

Keeping the standard pistons & rods I don't think you'll be able to get more than 1905cc from the engine.

I suppose you would need shorter rods to allow for the longer stroke?!

You are looking at bigger pistons to increase capacity surely??? 0.5mm oversize pistons should bring cc up to 1,927!!!

So jus thinkin when you fit another crank with a longer stroke to increase the cc what happens with the extra length of the stroke at the top of the bore/cylinder, do you then need a thicker head gasket to accomodate the extra length so you dont ruin valves?

A thicker head gasket would decrease your compression rate.

So how do you accomodate at the top of the bore/cylinder for the longer stroke cranks fitted when getting to 2.2 etc in the iron blocks?

Or skimming the top of the pistons. Increased C/R.

Thats what we did when I changed from 86 to 88mm crank

The XU9 never came with an 86mm crank afaik.

So would that work then, fittin a longer crank and shaving down the top of the pistons to accomodate the extra, i cant remember what crank is in the xu9 an what other cranks are available?

XU9s had 83mm crank, if You wanna increase the capacity You can either use 86mm, 92mm or 96mm ones, but! You need to measure stuff first to see how much room You have. 86mm is the highest I would go. And even if it would fit, there are other things which may go wrong. Save Your self the trouble, phone QEP for instance and ask them for advice. Or if You wanna do it all by Yourself, take the iron block instead.

Ah yeh i know i can go the iron block route, its jus tryin to work with what ive got an get the most out of it without spending alot on new blocks/pistons/rods, if i can simply get hold of a bigger crank an lighten an balance it an skim the pistons i already have then it'll work out alot cheaper for the time being, ill give matt at QEP a call an see what he reckons!

XU9's are all 88mm stroke and 83mm bore :)

So really 92mm from 2.1TD is the first option.

could it be done?!

92mm crank with standard 83mm pistons and rods would make 1991cc wouldnt it?

Doh, sorry, Kristian is right, it was a bit early when I was typing that, mixed just about everything lol,

XU9's have all 88mm crank, there are also 86mm from S16, 92mm from 2.1TD and 96 from DW12.

So yes, 92mm one is the first to go for, but like I said be careful, it's a wet lined block.

Yes, it would make a tad below 2.0.

Cheers
