Emerald K3 Cold Start Map

I'm having trouble starting my car in this cold weather. I don't use it much and last started it about 4 weeks ago, at that time it started as it normally does, ok with some light feathering of the throttle for 10secs or so then it'll idle just fine. I've never messed with the cold start as its never been an issue tbh........ until today when it just wouldn't catch.

I have no idea which way to adjust the settings, I know its the injection corrections that need adjusting. Would anybody running an Emerald I presume on 16v ideally ? that starts pretty easy at these temps (0 ish to 5 ish degrees) be able to take a screenshot of there injection corrections to give me an idea of which direction to go.

I daren't just play around with it as last time I did it cost me a pretty penny for an engine rebuild

Thanks in advance for any help.

I never bothered with my cold start.

Like you I don't use it much, foot on throttle when cold and a bit of hand brake at lights!

I have tried playing with it then gave up.

Dave Walker told me how on the phone once, I immediately forgot.

If I get a chance I'll take a screen shot (must find ECU serial lead, where is it??)

I'm interested in the answer too!!

I got it started today after changing the fuel in the tank. Other than starting it about 4 weeks ago to pull it out of the garage for a wash it hadn't been used since last July. I don't know why I thought it maybe the fuel but glad I did or I would have been scratching my head till the end of time.

I'd still like to fine tune the cold start, so is there anybody able to point me in the right direction ? Which part of which row to adjust ? initial ignition prime and/or cranking enrichment % ? and do I just adjust 1 site or a block ? I've read you generally only get one chance per day to try it, so at what % increments should I increase the values because I'd imagine theoretically it could take a lifetime of cold starts to get it right.

Cheers

This is why after 7 years I still don't have cold start!

There used to be instructions on emeralds website. Failing that give them a call.

Mine has always started on the first spin of the starter. It is a mi16 on TBs with a Peter t reground inlet. Ambeint temperature makes no odds, I have used it from -2 to 25'C with no issues.

It idles at 1100rpm which may seem slightly high but as it's a track car it has never really concerned me. I will try and get a screen grab at some point but it probably won't be for a few weeks.

As far as I remember we didn't alter the cold start from the base map Dave walker sent. The rest got changed on my rollers but cold start was always excellent.

Thanks for the link Simon.

I was in the same mind set as you regarding not fiddling with it (little knowledge is dangerous) and tbh after having a quick gander at the link you posted I probably still won't. I will have a proper read of the distructions when I have abit more time to concentrate on what its saying. I would phone them but as like in your case I'll have forgot by the time I put the phone down. LOL

It didn't bother me prior to this issue and now I've found it wasn't related to cold start I may end up just leaving well alone......we'll see.

Once upto temp mines solid at just under 1k and just over when cold.

I'd also be interested to see your cold start map too Jon if you get chance.

Cheers

Daz
