Parcel Shelf Restoration

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps,

I recently purchased a parcel shelf that was very light grey,

I just want to recommend a decent product that has worked very well in making mine lovely and black again!

Available in Homebase.

Brings back memories of the white 205 GTI on the early series of Wheeler Dealers

Joking aside it's come up well :)

I have used Autoglym black spray dye on a couple of shelves and it comes up ok but maybe not as dark a black as yours . Does it go on nicely without going crusty ? I will be doing another shelf soon so I might try that product for a change .

I originally was going to try the spray paint idea

And then found this whilst shopping and thought I'd give

It a go,

Yes it goes on nicely and isn't too stiff!!

Coverage is ok too

I rate it for sure, I managed to do the whole shelf but I may give it another can to make it 110% however this isn't need I'm just being a bit of a tart.

Depends on your budget : ) 4.99 or 9.98

Looks good in the photo, how do you think it would work on a whole carpet?

Not so sure on a whole carpet tbh!

It would cost a fortune as I've found 2 cans will complete a parcel shelf and with the right technique will look good!

I would look for a liquid bottle of dye for a whole carpet rather than this spray

I used a carpet dye spray for my carpet and found that I needed about 4 cans for an even finish, but had enough to also do my door cards

Okay thanks,

Pugley has it lasted quite a while? I'm not sure whether to try and find a black carpet or just dye one of my spare red ones.

I believe the phase 1.5 was grey.

Dundy, yes it has. Although I only drive my car a few thousand miles a year. I used a red spray dye on a red carpet. Might be more difficult to convert a red to black and I expect it would take a few more coats
