Here is a few pics with the oil cooler in place. I am using a renault oil filter to leave a bit more room with the sandwich plate fitted:

And here it is with the throttle bodies fitted up too:

As you can see there is'nt a whole lot of room between the bodies and the bonnett. Anyone know how much more room a auto bonnett gives??

none at all as the bulge is at the back, looks like you have loads of room there!

I have plenty of room for the trumpets really but would like a bit more room for the filter. I think it should fit allright anyway, i hope :)

Great stuff! Planning the build of my own 205 and this is a great help! On the engine, roughly what kinda money did it cost to get the 150bhp?

Any updates on this?

Was away for over a year so this got held up but getting back on track with it now. Have it running on a base map, have to bring it to be mapped properly yet but that should be happening in the next few weeks hopefully! Just have to finish wiring and fitting gauges and that before I bring it to be mapped. Hope to be doing a autocross on the 29th September as long as all goes to plan.

After a long long time I have finally got the car finished. Had it mapped at Westward engineering last Wednesday. It made 145.4bhp at 6935rpm and 162.4Nm of torque at 4995rpm, it has a nice smooth power curve and seems to pull well. Rev limit is set at 7300rpm. After a test drive I am very happy with it, it goes very well and the noise it makes is great! Only thing now is with the extra revs the gearing may be a bit too long but I will have to see how I get on first. Racing next Sunday 26/01/2014 so will have to see how I get on then.

Done my first event since the engine work and got on ok, no breakages or problems but had a problem getting the power down - had a lot of wheel spin. Only came 4th in class and was hoping for better. Next on the wish list is a 3J driveline LSD and some 1.9 hubs and shafts but don't know what brakes are best to use under 14" wheels if anyone has any suggestions?

Here is a video of one of my runs

That goes really well with you fair play. On my rally car im using standard Brembo vented discs with standard calipers. Ferodo DS3000 pads and AP Racing 660 fluid. I cant fault it. Im running an MI16 motor with around 170bhp just to give you an idea.

Done another autocross last Sunday, finished 3rd in class (1st fwd in class) and 18th overall out of 34. Was happy with how the day went but am still wondering what I have to do to be as quick as the two mk2 escorts in the class which were a good bit quicker than me.

Have a 3J driveline diff on the way from miles and thinking of maybe getting some 21mm torsion bars and a similar size arb maybe but don't know if these will make the car handle worse if it's wet?

I often wonder the same mate. The only thing I can think of is that you have to be super neat through the tighter corners and get the power down. There was one particular guy who had a st 170 motor in his mk2 and it took me the best part of 6 months to finally be able to beat him

I use Carbon Lorraine pads with standard discs and calipers with 14" wheels and Castrol SRF brake fluid

This will cope with Caerwent although the pedal can get a bit long towards the end of a stage.

The Carbon Lorraine pads are brilliant with good cold bite, amazing stopping power and do not fade - best I have used.

3J diff arrived today from Miles after a bit of a problem with couriers. Looking forward to getting it fitted but am racing this Sunday so won't be done before then! I have a few months after that until I am racing again so will get it done along with putting in a different crown wheel and pinion I am getting out of a gearbox from a expert van which should be a 4.9 or 5.06:1. Thinking about getting some 306 hubs modified to adjust camber and fitting 309 driveshafts but have to look into that yet.

it is very very rare to get one of those expert vans with the right CWP so be careful :) (they are beyond rare in fact - almost non existant)

It is rare to get that ratio CWP alright, have been looking for a while. I have checked with the chassis number of the van on service box and it comes up with 15X74 or 15X76. It is a be4 gearbox and not the be3 but I already have a 4.53 CWP out of a berlingo be4 and gears out of a 406 1.8 be4 so all works out. The be3 gears don't fit the be4 shaft.

Was out again on the 13/04/2014 and seem to improving a bit. Finished second in class and was closer to the mk2 escort that won then last time. I fitted a 24mm rear ARB which I had out of 306 beam and it seemed to make a difference, car turned in better. Think I may go for 21mm torsion bars too and see how it handles then.

Have some work to do but it's a while before I am out again so shouldn't be a problem! The fan I have doesn't seem to be able to keep the car cool enough - was creeping up over 100 degrees, so need to sort that and get a better fan. Need to get my 3J diff fitted, want to fit 1.9 driveshafts when I fit this too.

Here is a video of my quickest run on the last day:

I had my gearbox apart a while back and fitted the 3J driveline diff and 4.9 Cwp. Got new 309 driveshafts and 306 hubs modified by bridgecraft for -1 degrees camber, have had rose jointed wishbones lying around for a long time I got from KAD but went to fit all these and couldn't get the camber to where I wanted, even with the right had side rose joint wound nearly out of the threads on the wishbone I couldn't get enough camber so looks like I have something bent seems to be the subframe as far as I can see because I had to put my old hubs, driveshafts and wishbones back on for now as had a event Sunday and still had nearly 2 degrees difference right to left. I adjusted the top mounts to get it the same both sides for now.

Anyway even with this the rally sprint I done went well for me - finished 1st in class and 13th overall out of 33 so was happy, beat a lot of cars with more power than me. The diff makes a big difference!

Not a lot happened in the last year unfortunately. Won the class in the Cavan autocross championship last year, was close all year but then the lad I was challenging for the class win had engine problems so won by default really. Then I had problems of my own - left the car running one day to warm it up late last year and it mysteriously overheated and blew the head gasket, I fixed this but haven't had the car out racing since - buying a house and family weddings etc have held things up badly!

Should be out racing this weekend but another wedding has put stop to that. I will be racing next month if that goes to plan and will hopefully have more updates then!

Haven't updated this in a long time but not much has happened either. I have fitted 309 wishbones with the 306 hubs I got modified by bridgecraft & fitted 309 driveshafts. I have also fitted 106 Gti front brake caliper a as the ones I had on there were sticking, I fitted carbon RC6 pads with these and they seem to work well.

Have been out three times this year so far and have had two 3rd places and a 2nd place in class. The last day I tried some 13" wheels on the front of the car which went well so I will be getting more 13" wheels.

image_3.jpeg

The wheels I got are Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 in 13x7" et15. These ones where meant to go on a Caterham or some other kind of kit car so had 63.4 centre bore to suit that so got them machined to 65.1, I think et15 is perfect for a 7" wheel on a 205. Some people will think the wheels look too small on the car but I think they look well and more importantly the car feels good to drive on them, they make more of a difference to the gearing than I thought which works well on the track I race at most and I have more of a choice of tyres and more chance of getting good second hand tyres as a lot of people run 13's on mk2's. I have ordered a set of pro race 1.2's now in the same fitment and they are coming in the right centre bore which is handy.
