Recommended Posts

-Xu10j4rs Head (GTi6) fully rebuild , port and polish
-Xu10j4rs block with S16 (xu10j4) rods and piston
- td crankshaft 88mm

my questions is :
- which bearings I need to use (GTi6 oem?) ?
- my static compresion will be arround 11.5 ? or above 12 ?
- td crankshaft ,whether there are any modifications to be placed in gti6 bottom ?

sorry for my bad englishh .. cheers

XU10 mains bearings

XU9 or XU10 rod bearings

XU9 thrust bearings, check for 0.07-0.27mm end float, various thicknesses are available

approx 11.2-11.5:1

TD crank drops straight in.

tnx peter .. one more question for you ... How much will be a valve clearance at TDC .. i have i plan in future to put newman ph2 264* cam, do I need to pocket s16 piston ? 1.1mm headgasket thick

No idea, you'll need to measure it but better than a GTi6 piston. That cam is too small for that spec anyway. The dynamic CR will be too high.

Does this mean that that spec will not work normally on the stock gti6 cam?.. until I buy biger cam ..100 oct fuel ?

DCR will be about 9.5 ... advance inlet cam for reduce dcr ?

No retard; it's about the closing point; where the compression starts.

With 88mm cranck and S16 pisotns+rods you will be 1mm over the deck.GTI6 gasket is 1.2 and you have to pocked the pistons with >1mm for standard GTI6 cams in order to keep safety clearence at TDC.If you plan PH2 Newman with 1.4 mm lift@TDC you need 0.3 mm deeper pocket.

I disagree.

eg

S16 piston compression height = 39.1mm

S16 rod length = 152mm

half stroke = 44mm

XU10 block height = 235.1mm

39.1 + 152 + 44 = 235.1mm

I confirm, piston is flat with the block ..

I gave up from newman ph2 (to small) ... ill buy later catcams 4903156 (281* 3.30mm@tdc, but only 10mm max lift) , or 4903109 (274*/267* 2,0/1.4mm@tdc , 10,95 max lift) , with pocketed s16 piston +2mm .. I do not know yet , every thought is welcome ...

i measure my valve clearance to piston at TDC .. Inlet is 4,2mm and exhaust  4,5mm (with gasket 1.1mm)  ... enough space for cam for 2.0mm inlet@lift at tdc (274*)?

You need to allow 2.3mm of clearance, minimum. The inlet valve will actually be closer after TDC and reduce this by approx. 0.25mm.

4.2 - 2.0 = 2.3mm

Thus only just.

I pocketed piston +1.5mm  ... (only inlet side) now i have 5.5mm clearance at TDC ...
i measure :
CR .. it will be 11.2-11.3:1 ...
with catcam '109 (2mm@tdc)  now DCR will be around 8.9/9:1

How did this work out and what cams did you use. I’m planning a similar setup

Why so much clearance? Catcams recommends minimum 1.0mm valve-piston clearance and preferably 1.5mm. The Catcams 4903109 should go in this setup with OEM valve pockets if the above specs (Intake 4,2mm and exhaust 4,5mm) are correct.

Do as you wish, but most hydraulic lifters run at 0.080" min on the inlet and 0.100" on the exhaust, minimum. You might be confusing hydraulic with solid lifter clearance.

Awesome, well done.

Sounds great.

Is the TD crank worth the extra efford? Will it be more powerfull/more torque over a standard GTI6 engine?

Could you have used std GTI6 rods and pistons with extra deep valve pockets machined?

Thanks.

Much more powefull over standard  .. i must remap ECU to get full power..
NO i used piston and rods from S16 (xu10j4) with td crank (88mm)
