erm, no thanks! its just two lumps of metal and some springs, that will not be very effective compared to a proper diff.

that's about half the price of an ATB or proper LSD.

Even if they were a good idea in general they would be a bad idea in a BE box due to the weakness of the pin holding the standard diff together. Removing that weakness is a big secondary benefit to fitting an LSD to a BE box so an LSD that retains it probably wont last long under the extra stress.

Idea is not mine, but whoever did it first was a genius.

I did find some information online , but not enough and had to figure it out myself.

Same diff can also be used in vw gearboxes .

no, looks like there are some modifications required, spline count is not correct.

fine if you are an engineer and have access to machinery, but if youre paying someone to do the work you're likely better to buy a direct fit unit.

Splines match .Diff bearing inner diameter is 35(lada samara) vs 38 mm( be3), that was basically only problem.

Total cost was under 300 euros.

Any one ever tried these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112262090494

He also sells Lada Samara diffs that look very similar, but much cheaper.

Looks like a Quaife ATB but not as well finished!!

Personally I'd rather hold out for a second hand known quantity at similar pricing, but that's just me.

Unfortunately they only make thorsen type lsd´s for be 3, that´s why I used samara plate diff ,also from Russia , but different manufacturer.

How did you fix the bearings?

Haven't seen a second hand Quaife's coming by lately for decent money. Could be a nice alternative.

Had couple of bushings made by a friend ,inner diameter fraction under 35 mm, heated and then installed .

Also had to use thick washer under right side diff bearing, I have forgotten measurements , it was two years ago.

There are couple of more issues , speedo drive , I didn´t bother with that, car is used mostly on the track anyway.

Final drive and diff were machined to center final drive and to bring it to the right position, finally new holes drilled into FD.

A friend of mine is building such "LSD's" for FIAT,... and it is not as bad as one may think.

It works well on street cars. You can achive a preload of about 30Nm depending on the

springrate. So it is a nice upgrade but not for that price from the ebaylink.

My friend is selling this for about 150 pounds.

To the original post,

I can see the idea is along the lines of the VW set up but they use the bolt of the shaft stub to hold the spring preload but that just looks poor and well you may as well just weld the diff than use that as if it fails it will give the same affect..

I'd be more concerned with not getting scammed or getting my credit cards jacked.

If they're legit I'll get one myself in 6 months. I expect it will need some fettling to fit.

They offer to pay by PayPal. Which under the buyers protection i should be covered if I do not receive the item. Because it lists BE3 for the 405 does that mean it will be fine for my 1.6 BE3 box?

I am sure it fits, I was thinking of buying one two years ago.

Val-racing made diffs back then and they are still in business so I don´t think they are going to rip-off.

I also drove couple of months with welded diff .

I tried it just because there are so much different opinions about fwd with welded diff .

It was almost like driving with plate diff , be careful at slow speeds not to break driveshafts and then just stay on throttle and car turns.

Hello, anyone has bought and installed this LSD from Valracing? I bought this LSD about 1 year ago for my 205 GTI 1.9 but my mechanic was not able to put it, he said me that it doesn't fit. Anyone had the same problem? Thanks.

If you put it inside a BE3R from a 306 you need to grind a little bit inside the gearbox, maybe on an older gearbox you need to grind even more.
