Wiper Motor Given Up Again

Recommended Posts

Luke

I replaced my front wiper motor with a second hand one about a year ago. This motor has now given up as well and with this rain I have resorted to cycling to work!

Can I get a new or refurbished motor anywhere? There is a new left hand drive motor on ebay for a good price at them moment. Is there any way of modifying a LHD motor for a RHD car?

I don't have any experience of 205 wiper motors, but most electric motors can be serviced with new windings and brushes. A quick google should find a few places...

If you want a newer motor, 106/Saxo and 306/Xsara motors can be used with some minor wiring connector changes, on 306/Xsara anyway.

really easy to take apart, two small screws and the black cover comes off easily, whilst your at it check the spindles move freely in the black plastic housings, as I had a couple of wiper mechanisms where the spindles were so corroded they were stuck solid, once they were freed up and well lubricated both wiper systems worked well.

You sure it's not seizing spindles that are causing the motor to work harder than it should?

Last time I replaced the motor the spindles were swinging freely. I haven't had a chance to take it out yet this time but I'll check when I get it out tonight.

I did find that one on ebay and I do splash out on brand new parts for the pug from time to time but that's a little too steep, even for me :(

I think I'll refurb. my one if the left hand drive one cannot be modified.

As Anthony mentioned the 306 motor is near identical, does need some welding to swap the smaller ball pivot over as you can't use the 205 arm on the 306 motor as the spindle thread and taper is larger.

406 motor looks identical, as does expert van, partner etc, saxo motor may have the right size ball pivot.

Opened mine up and I think its way past it. It could probably be saved with a lot of sanding/scrubbing but I don't think its worth it.

I'm going to try a new one from a saxo that looks identical. Will post back here with the part number if its a direct swap.

I managed to get a brand new genuine Saxo one, old stock from a dealer for £40. Saxo one's are definetly a straight fit - so likely 106 one's are too.

I did originally try refurbing my standard 205 one and whilst it did improve, it wasn't a patch on a brand new one. I'd also recommend stripping/greasing the spindles and linkage though - that also made a sizeable difference.

i fitted a 306 one to a friends car and as Anthony says you need to swap the 205 style wiring plug on to those....didn't need to mess around with the spindle though.

Just fitted a new Saxo front wiper motor. Direct swap.

For anyone searching the forum the part number was:

Peugeot: 6406.85

Valeo: 535 44 202

Mine was old stock on ebay for about £50. Worth keeping a look out.
