Brake Fluid Reservoir - Push Fit?

Recommended Posts

soundguy

The reservoir on top of the master cylinder - is that just a push fit or is there supposed to be some mechanical fixing? Seems a bit insecure.

just a push fit yes, you could pop a large cable tie around it if you want.

Thanks Mei, will do that - keep having visions of it bouncing off the bonnet one day under heavy braking (not sure how likely that is, but better safe than sorry).

It's not safe at all, it's quite likely to start a fire in the event of a crash, they wouldn't be allowed to build something like that these days.

I put cable ties round them but I don't think it makes a huge difference, they are still ludicrously flimsy.

Thanks for the warning JH, hadn't given any thought to flammability.

The 306 master cylinders have a securing pin to hold the reservoir, in case you'll replace the stuff...

I've just put a new master cylinder on but it's a standard replacement, otherwise would have been a good upgrade (thanks for the suggestion).
