Gearbox Options 1.4cj

Hello all, hope you are well. finally got activated and after a quick search there is not much i can find to advise me here.

Got a couple of CJ's ones a 1990 in the standard white, other is a 1993 in the standard dark blue. the 93 one has the simple if crude singlepoint fuel injection.

However to drive back to back the gearbox's are quite different. The 1990 while sloppy is smooth and precise, and the rations are superb, an indicated 80 is just under 80, and its pulls well and cruises well in each gear.

The 1993 one is quite different, indicated 80 is actually 70, and its revving higher too in top, ratios i think are a bit closer and while feels a bit stronger low down off the mark, overall i prefer the older one.

Can anyone please advise if the box's were different on the models? or is it likely its been changed on the 1993 car, and if so, is there a box i should be looking to find and get fitted while i get a clutch done.

On another note, the head gasket needs doing on the 1993 car, and yet the cars done 110k it feels so taught and smooth to drive compared to the older low mileage model (genuine too 1 owner full dealer history)

Cheers in advance for any advice

:)

Ok, maybe someone can reccomend a box to look for. ideally something which will give the correct speedo reading and not rev out at 80 on the motorway.

Cheers

Swordfish, are all the base model 1.4 box's the same then ? ideally to get the ratios just like the G plate CJ would be great, this one feels a bit buzzy and closer ratio than i like for a road car tbh

LAN, indeed, small old world isnt it mate ? you saw the white one which the girlfriend is learning to drive in. I have the K plate blue one with the above pain in the ass frantic box.

Its good to see someone who appreicates this little classics, just driving it you get different reactions from people.
