Help With My 205 Rallye Conversion

Recommended Posts

mark_ashley

Hi people, how you doing? I am putting a 106 gti engine in my 205 rallye and need some help with a couple of things.

had the same combination once but paid someone to do it but this time im attempting it under brookpower (my mate).

The ecu is locked, however im gonna get it unlocked so i can cut out the hassle of the ransponder unit and some inside loom and use my original key. Any suggestions where to get this done?? Anyone done this conversion got any tips for the wiring that i could easily overlook???

Also i have been told the 205 driveshafts should work, im keeping the rallye hubs, so can anyone confirm they will be ok to use... if so is there any others, the only reason i ask is on the last car i went through shafts like they were made of chocolate ;)

Which leads me to the brakes.... i have some calipers form a 106 gti and want to use these as im keeping 14" wheels and they fit. Gonna get braided hoses, discs and pads... but will the calipers go straight on or are they offset wrong? If so does anyone know if they need spacers ade or ground down? Once again any suggestions will be great.

Lastly its about the fuel pressure/pump. Im on the understanding the old one off the 1.4 wont give enough pressure for the new engine, so what should i do?? is it simple enough to put an in-tank pump or is this a lot of hassle?? or can i just get an inline pump, if so, any reccomendations?

cheers lads, sorry its so much but youd help loads.

mark.

If you keep the 205 rallye hubs (and if they are the same as a euro rallye) you could use some sort of 206 brakes ( i dont know the exact type)

Or take 1.1 hubs and you can use...

306gti6

206gti ( fits in 14 "! )

etc etc

i think you could use a 205 gti tank + pump ?

rest i dont now ;) just reading to learn when i fit a 16v :)

so 206 gti brakes would go straight onto 1.1 hubs??? which in turn would go straight onto my suspension legs?? how do the 1.1 and rallye items differ??

UK 205 Rallyes have base model hub uprights, which take the normal 306 266mm and 283mm brake upgrades. So you don't have the compatibility issues of the Euro 205 Rallye hub uprights.

The driveshafts will fit, but the diff pin on the 106 box is thicker and pushes the nearside shaft out a bit, so you have to fit the diff seal about 3mm proud of the housing for a good seal.

ok so driveshafts i can reuse... my have to send them away to get them strengthened though... will see how they go!

as for the brakes, im understanding i can get some 266mm brakes or 283mm brakes and they will go straight on, im assuming though that the 283mm brakes may be too big for the 14" wheels though???? But it still makes it no clearer what i will have to do to get 106 gti brakes on the front.. or is it not worth trying and just go for the 266mm option? are these off the 206 gti (not 180)?

thanks again. mark.

Brake choice is up to you, if you have the 106 calipers then just bolt them straight on (as stated they will go straight onto your hubs), 283mm brakes will be far too big for 14's. Depending on what wheels you are running you may be able to fit the 266mm brakes, they don't go under 1.6 alloys though. 266mm brakes came fitted to 206 gtis (the 138bhp model), 306 xsi's and s16's.

im using the 14" steelies off the 106 rallye ph2.... ok so the 106 gti brakes will bolt straight onto my hubs??? sorry for repeating myself, only i was told by quite a large company who specialise in pugs that they wouldnt fit.

anyone have any good ideas where to get ecu unlocked??

cheers.

If your hubs are still the uk spec rallye hubs then i can't see why they wouldn't fit, unless 106 gti's run a random offset (which i've never heard of). I'd have a look around and find someone selling an unlocked ecu, probably work out a fair bit cheaper.

I'm using thr 106 Rallye P2 wheels on my base model hubs, along with 306 ATE Calipers and discs which are the same as the 106 GTi ones. They fit fine, no problems.
