Ford Wheel Bolt Alternative.

Recommended Posts

Guest BrainFluid

Just thought I'ld mention that a head bolt from an XUD can be used as an alternative to the ford wheel bolt.

Dont know if the XU and The XUD head bolts are the same but the XUD one certainly did the trick, plenty of thread on it too.

EDIT: For rear beam shnanigans if anyone was actually wondering.

Any from an iron block Xu or the caliper mounting bolt for the Bendix calipers. (1.9 bolts are to short).

Alloy 8v headbolts are the wrong thread (too small)

I think the article should be changed, its way easier to go and get an iron block XU head bolt from a scrapyard than to try and find an outdated ford wheel bolt...Not that I did that I just had one handy...It really did work a treat.

I suppose I could have listed every alternative bolt that could be used but that would have taken a while. That is why I listed the thread dimensions. I sort of hoped that people would have the common sense to be able to find a bolt that fits from their garage, mine happened to be a ford bolt.

Any way, it's quite old news now about alternative bolts, a search should bring up a few.

Oh I'm not nocking the atricle mate, its great stuff. I just think it would be worth while listing a few alternatives on the article because if there is one thing you just cant rely on its other folks commen sense!

Would probably save a few folk getting all embarresed at scrapyards, lol.

I agree having read the article again. There are a few errors or things that I'd like to change.

I was in the process of rewriting it and have most of the file on computer. There are a few more pictures that I need to take though. I reckon in the summer I should be able to finish it off.

I'd send a corrected version to Cybernck but he's a busy man and getting new things on the forum seems to take a while. For the sake of a few words now, I don't see it's worth it. I'll wait until the new guide is finished.

Personally I think that although having a few possible sources for a suitable bolt might be a worthy addition to the article, whats the chance of most 205 owners having either an XU10/ XUD headbolt around over a ford wheel bolt?

They aren't exactly common place in the scarpyard floor either.

With out wanting to turn this into some kind of war of atrishion, I rekkon that in most scrappies you would have a better chance of finding an xu iron block (like you say) head bolt than an outdated ford wheel bolt pugtorque. I'ld be willing to bet that one would find one of those quicker and not be laughed at by the scrappy dude.

ALL that I am trying to say is that when wurzel renews his article it would be a good idea to list ALL the alternatives because, lets face it, anyone who uses the rear beam refurb article for the first time WILL (most likely) be new to it.

Its all well and good for the folk who have done it time and time again to say, ha , well, the alternatives are obvious, well, sorry, but to the newbie......it is not.

And besides it will just save on people having to search and ask questions. It is....after all....a commen thing that most folk will have to do if they dont want to pay through the nose for one/ getting some one to do it for them.

blah blah blah......
