the V6 ML gearbox uses exactly the same speedo drive housing as the BE+MA, so you can remove the fully electronic VSS and fit the mechanical+electrical unit, or the full mechanical unit if you don't need the VSS signal.

@Welshpug: I'm using the ME gearbox, not the ML, so a direct swap won't work I think.

At the moment I won't be trying to swap/try anything, fell down the stairs yesterday when I had my son in my arms, he's got a cut of about 5cm in his head, been at the hospital all yesterday afternoon getting it stitched and I can't stand on my right foot, my right ankle has been taped up now and my left leg hurts like hell.

Next week it's just internet research I think... ;)

Ouch....You must be in the wife's bad books!! :(

In all seriousness, sorry to hear that (although it was only my son injuring himself in my care rather than me being the cause!! ).

And even without oil pressure it still runs like crazy !!

The french really know how to build an engine !! :)

Already fixed, I bought the car without an oil pressure sensor in it...fitted one when the engine was out.

How laggy is it? I imagine it's pretty flat off boost with the low compression?

lower compression doesnt neccessarily mean lag.

I know. That's not what i was gettgin at.

I asked about the lag as if you get caught off boost waiting for the turbo to spool then the low compression will hurt.

That's the reason I asked, just wondered how often it's likely to catch you out.

If there's little lag then you don't have to worry about the side effects.

I was expecting more lag when I chose the GT30, but when it was mapped again the lag has been reduced to a minumum.

Ok, when I'm going about 60 mph in 5th I have to shift down if I want go at warpspeed, but just overtaking someone at 60 is no problem, just put my foor down a little and it's done in a few second.

Hell, overtaking someone at 50 I still do in 5th gear :)

People seem to ask this a lot which I find a bit confusing really, just like a 16v engine where you change down a gear to get to the power above say 4000rpm, you do the same with a turbo, just go down a cog and then at the slightly higher revs it comes on boost pretty much straight away and you go rocketting past.

Having said that, the same as Eric is saying, I can comfortably overtake in 5th from 50mph no worries, if I want to go past like my tyres are on fire I can use 4th or even 3rd.

When you have the proper gear there's really no point in going out of your way to be modest :).

Below you see the result of my stickertuning :(

Since they are Brembo calipers off an Alfa and they don't say Brembo but Alfa Romeo, I had to sand the Alfa sh*t off and got a few Brembo stickers off Ebay.

A few layers of clear paint on them and it almost looks like factory.

I also decided the wheels will become black, NOT white ;)

They don't look like

They look more like the 607 ones

They are from an Alfa 166 V6 and not a direct fit, you need to make some brackets and file a bit of the caliper.

The pads are bigger then the 406 ones and on my discs (302mm) they use 99% of the pad surface.

If you fit the 406 calipers on 288mm (Xantia V6) discs you get about 4mm on the inside and oustide ot the disc that isn't used.

I may be wrong but I suppose Eric is using 302x26mm discs from Peugeot/Citroen. I think they are fitted to the 207 RC and a few 307/C4 models.
