Quick Engine Manifold Question/idea

Recommended Posts

trialster

hey, just wondering if a 4-2 exhaust manifold has been tried?

when i say 4-2 i mean that the 1st and 2nd posts are joined slightly further down, and the 3rd and 4th ports are also joined slightly further down. these two single pipes then act as seperate exhausts at the rear end of the car.

i hope this makes sense!

You would probably have to run quite thin pipes and a balancer pipe between the two, feasable but costly and it weighs more. Better to just split into two near the back of the car.

V6/v8 engines run separate but then its logical why

surely it would be a twin 2-1 system rather than a 4-2

ahh, so you have to link the pipes to help with the control of back pressure..??

Race Mini Miglias use a similar setup, they are trying to extract the maximum amount of power from an archaic 5 post cylinder head and limited modifications though. As above I'd have thought on a 205 you will lose more from the weight gain than you will gain from engine output.

yeah, this is true!

although if you managed tor oute the exhaust outlet to just behind the front wheels, or maybe just before the back wheels, that'd lighten it up a bit.

does anyone know whether it actually would increase the power/torque of the engine? or is the current exhaust already made to give the correct amount of bak pressure?

put simply yes, if its the original (factory) one or an expensive well tailored replacement.

there isnt really enough room under a 205 to do side pipes, and they do benefit from having a decent length downpipe/manifold.
