Coils And Igniters

Recommended Posts

Sorry probably covered loads but I cant find the right answer. Is the XU10J4R (long one across the top) ground triggered and has its own amps built in? Been years since I wired one of these. Just speccing up for an ECU and need to know if I need the high voltage igniters, external amplifiers of simple ground triggers.

Also same question for gti6 coils but suspect they will operate the same.

switched live and pulled to earth by the ecu, J4R is wasted spark, J4RS sequential.

so two high power earthed drivers will suffice to run wasted spark?

Cant believe how much I have forgot since I last done this

was thinking of going MS route for now due to budget, spending on cams, bodies, brakes etc etc at moment. Can pick up an MS pre built for under 200.

Hi Richie,

We use MS2 extra on our 205 8v.Different setup to your's I know, but it works well for us.In fact I love it.

There has been some disscusion on the pro's and con's of different controllers recently, but I like the way you can fiddle with MS.

If you want to take a look at the MSQ file just PM me and I'll email it over for you.

All the best

O.T.

@opticaltrigger. I have built an ms1 set up quite a few years back which was quite succesful. On a similar to build to what I am now doing. Question though is how are you connecting? Old laptop with r232 port or have you found a good usb to r232 adapter? I dod have an old laptop last time but no such luck this time. Any advice on which adapter to get is appreciated.

Hi Richie,

Yes.I can say without a doubt that the genuine EFI Analytics stuff is the best. We tried some ebay cables and the RF shielding on them just is'nt up to it.The RF pulses from the ignition cause repeated communications losses on cheap cables. http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/cablesandbluetooth

We use the EFI Analytics USB to 232 cable for the laptop with Tuner Studio on it and there is never a comms loss.

We also use there bluetooth adapter for conection to a tablet which we use as the dash now with Shadowdash. But unfortunatley you cant run both at once yet.

If your laptop is bluetooth compatible you could just get there adapter and plug it into the controller but I prefer there cable as it's a bit faster and very direct. It's a personal choice really.

All the best

O.T.

Thanks. Ive ordered direct from EFI to save any wasted time with dodgy leads and adapters.
