Full Mi16 Engine Loom Back To Standard

Recommended Posts

backroadpug

Just fitted the standard ecu and engine wiring harness back into my 205. And something keeps shorting. So bad I blew a resistor in the ecu.. all plugs are connected. Cant find any wires shorting. Removed whole loom and ecu from a running car and wasnt shorting in that... ahh I hate wiring thought would just be a straight swap but nothings that easy..lol

What year is your 205 and what year was the 205 that donated the ECU+loom?

What happened when you first turned it on, did the starter motor turn over before you fully turned the key?

What happened to make you think something was shorting apart from the damage inside the ECU?

need a photo of the plugs in your shell (the 2 brown multiplugs) and the 2 on the loom, clearly showing the colours of the cable

Your thumb is not in the best position!

It looks like the red and blue (switched + and starter solenoid) might be swapped which are the two that are in different positions in early and late 205s. This is what I was hinting at when I asked what position the key was in. However you say the problem happened as soon as you connected the battery so while you may have those wires swapped that wont cause any issues until you turn the key.

Can you take another photo with your thumb out of the way please.

I assume you connected the new loom to the shunt box? The shunt box is the black box near to the battery that is connected to the battery + terminal. Can you describe (or better yet photo) the plug you connected to the shunt box.

OK so it does look like pin 6 on the small plug and pin 9 on the large plug need to be swapped over. Blue is the starter motor solenoid feed and red is the switched positive power supply.

The problem this normally causes is the starter turning when the key is only turned to the 'run' position.

That is a fairly normal issue when people swap looms from one 205 to another and needs to be fixed but it doesn't explain why your ECU has been damaged, that's not something I've seen before.

Where do the two large red wires with green heatshrink on the end of your shunt box go to? I would expect to see one yellow wire with beige/pink heatshrink there going straight to the battery + terminal - there is a photo of one here http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=116530
