Wiring Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

jamie_1992

im after a bit of advice, im currently doing a complete rewire on my 205 gti6 and cutting out almost all of the wiring and running an after market fuse box.

although i am wanting to keep the dash to run the speedo, rpm and fuel tank level. iv done some research and identified the wiring i need for tank sender and rpm gauge, is it just a case of running a 12v feed to the dash, earth and the feed from senders or will that not work?

can someone also remind me what wires it is i need to run just the engine (il be putting the fuel pumps on separate switches)

this is the fuse box il be using

if youre using a gti6 loom (or any fuel injection loom really) then you dont need to bodge the fuel pumps on switches.

you need a switched live to the double relay and a permanent live, you can use the fuel pump feed to trigger a second relay if you have two pumps

That fuse box doesn't look good to me, screw terminals are a terrible idea and the DIY style crimps don't inspire confidence either.

can you recommend a fuse box to use? i was under the impression that the car builder solutions stuff was ok

If your budget can stretch to it I'd get a digital PDM of some sort.

If not then at least make sure it has proper modern connector plugs, not 1960's style screw down terminals, they'll vibrate loose in no time in a 205 GTI!

Somebody on here was talking about these a while ago - http://www.we-online.com/web/en/intelligente_systeme/produkte_neu/powermanagement/standard-zentralelektrik/trm/TRM_Einleitung.php - I forget who it was and I'm not sure if they got anywhere with them.

Update

I've wired up the dash and tested it for the rev gauge but it's not working, however it was not working when the car was on original loom. I've tested it on a second dash so it's not the gauge so I need to trace it back to engine. Where dose a gti6 take its readings for revs from? Apparently there was a mod done to the loom by miles to make it work in the 205, what would this be?

You need to follow this guide here http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=139234 works perfectly for standard or aftermarket management.

It does work perfectly.... BUT, you need to be using the tacho output on the ECU, which you might not be if you're mentioning a modified loom (which is typically the diode trick to combine the coil feeds to drive the original unmodified tacho)

Iv done the mod to a spare rev gauge I had so going to try running it from the ecu but I'm having trouble find the wire I need

I believe it's it's red wire 426 but I can't see any numbers and there are several red wires at the ecu plug, dose anyone know what pin on the ecu I need to find and can trace it from there

Pin 42 on ECU is tacho output.

30hz at engine idle

100hz at 3000 rpm
