Exhaust Queries!

Recommended Posts

Guest darren1984

Hi guys,

Have a bit of a problem, I have an s16 engined 205 and my exhaust has started to blow pretty bad so i thought id get the welder at it to sort it out but when i got under the car i found a weird set-up,basically the downpipe turns into 2 pipes were the rest of the exhaust system bolds on and then it goes back into 1,im thinkin of gettin a new exhaust but is this normal or is it only because of the s16 engine?

Im a little confused, can anyone help?

THanks alot

Darren

Sounds like you have an after market downpipe from what you've said above. iirc Janspeed make a twin pipe downpipe but isn't actually all that good. Itdefinately isn't an S16 thing.

If you mean the manifold, then yes this has a split in the centre (inside) and so should the downpipe (but still be one round pipe). This acts like the 2-1 part of a 4-2-1. HTH a little!!

all the larger capacity o.e XU downpipes IIRC are split but look like a single pipe from the oitside (bar the weld going down the side) smaller ones or non Sport ones have been 2 separate pipes.

A standard 205 Gti one. There are two types, pre '89 which were a downpipe that connected to the centre section,(3 pc system) or a post '89 that are the downpipe incorporated with the centre section.(2pc system) Ideally you want a good one like Arvin, as they have the split down the centre on the downpipe which is beleived to be very beneficial.
