Best Way To Remove Spot Welds

Recommended Posts

pip470

Hi I am planning on fitting my new bucket seats to two welded bars to the floor as many have done before but what I cant find out is how you remove the old seat mounts that are spot welded. I thought you just drilled where the divet left from the weld was but now i have a couple of holes in my floor. Any advice would be greatfull. Cheers Phill

thats the only way, drill them, fill the hole with a plug of weld.

Use a proper spot weld drill!

They look similar to a normal drill bit, but the head is much flatter, with a centralising point, which makes it much easier to drill through just one skin.

You can also get ones like this which have a spring loaded central pin, and have some form of depth control.

Where there is access, I use a tool like this:

It use bits like the ones pictured above, but allows very fine depth adjustment so you never go through the underlying panel(s).
