1.9 With 1.6 Dizzy On Carbs...

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

I'm mid way through my 1.9 rebuild, the engine has a rally cam in it already and I'm adding bike carbs to sort the fueling out as when I bought it, it ran like a dog.

The carb set up I'm buying is off a 1.6 so it will obviously need re jetting, but it comes with a dizzy that has been 'modified' to run better with carbs, I'm more of a spanners man than an auto electrician so I'm not sure what can be changed in them.

Will it run ok with the 1.6 dizzy, seen as there's no injection? Or am I better off just keeping my old 1.9 dizzy on it?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

The 1.6 vs 1.9 dizzy thing is nothing to do with injection, and more to do with the ignition advance curve being changed to suit the different engines.

Both would work to a degree and I imagine that neither would be perfectly suited to the new cam as standard, so just a question of which is closest, particularly after 25+ years of wear/degradation.

I'm not sure what would have been modified on the 1.6 item for the bike carbs - removal of the vacuum advance possibly (the disk shaped capsule thing on the rear)?

I would be tempted to go for an ignition only ecu such as Omex 200, ditch the old dizzy and run a coil pack.
