£800 For Late Speeding Fine - Court Hearing What To Expect

Recommended Posts

ALEX

A friend of mine has received a £800 speeding fine and 6 points after failing to pay for a speeding fine in his work van.

First he heard that he'd been caught speeding was today when he was handed a letter from work.

The hire company for his work van sent the fine back to the place it came from (not the company where he works)

Its been sat around ranking up late payment fees until its finally found its way to him now

He's to attend a court hearing next month and is worried about what might happen..

Is justice likely to prevail here and the fine to be reverted back to the original value?

or Is it likely hes going to have to take it on the chin and pay up?

Is this the new style fine? As only a court can allocate a fine as a result of a guilty plea by post or court. So I'm assuming it's an earnings based fine (the new style) it sounds more further along than your friend is telling you or your understanding of it?

Aslong as the ticket reached its 1st recipient within the 14 days then it's legal unfortunately

I think the only thing he can try and show is that he had no knowledge of the NOIP while it was been sent around the houses, but again it looks like he's been nominated or nominated himself as the driver some time ago? He's lucky they didn't change it to a non payment of fine warrant!

Get it paid, I can't see many excuses working tbh

Might be the case as he told me he had been caught speeding a while ago when I was telling him about my NOIP.

(Variable speed camera on M1, was doing 71 when it was showing 60, didn't realise they started putting cameras at the SIDE! of the overhead gantries. I've got to attend a motorway speed awareness course next month) .

50/50

You'd like to think it would get sorted but he must be the registered driver for fine to be in his name

Proving the hire company are at fault for the late payment and your mate isn't is a case of your word against mine (unless it was registered/signed for)

And then there's the court view of ignorance is not a defence

Boy from my work got a letter, went to cop shop to find out what was going on-got arrested (aye he was a tube though!)

Just to update.

He attended court and they accepted his plea of not receiving the NIP. To which his work admitted blame.

They reduced the fine to £360 and 4 points.

His work have offered to pay all but £100 of it. So not too bad for him in the end.

The spawny git also won £160 on the lottery so he's £60 up - To put towards his insurance hike due to the points.

Relatively good news, although if your work don't bother to tell you you've been done for speeding, then let you go to court I personally would be looking for employment elsewhere (after emptying vehicle of everything-and I mean everything, even if it was nailed down-I'd nick the nails!!)

not likely it'll go up much if at all unless it was a straight 6 point offence, mine didn't for 3.
