how come no-one mentioned michelin pilot sport (unpopular in the UK)?

 

iirc, they are usually known as the best performance tyre in the rain.

I had pilot sports on the nimrods, very good tyre and lasted ages but they were very expensive IIRC

Yep Pilot Sports are more expensive and probably not quite as good as the f1 in the wet, but probably better in the dry.

Ive currently got two F1's and two Toyo's on the car (front to back rather than side to side - although that may be an amusing experiment :) ).

 

I've swapped them front to back a couple of times, and there's nothing in it - or whatever the difference is its less than the difference pressure, temperature, track surface, etc make. The only thing that sways me is that the toyo's seem "bouncier" than the F1's; so given a straight choice I'd go for the F1's. However on a road car I'd be very suprised if there was anything to choose between them...
