1.9 Jolting Under Load

Recommended Posts

Chip1

Hi all

This problem just surfaced but under very light load, or when putting foot back on throttle, there is occasionally a split second of zero power. It's as if the whole engine dies momentarily. This can result in quite severe jolting in the car, which ain't great! Any thoughts please?

sounds much like what's called "kangarooing" usually a combination of things stemming from wear and tear and poor initial setup of the throttle body and throttle switch, worn airflow meters, slack engine mountings.

Despite its age the mileage is low. And it's only just started doing it. I don't suppose there's any way of testing which component may be at fault though as it's fine at idle.

You need to start from the beginning and work through the parts Welshpug mentions logically, get a Haynes manual and set up the throttle body and throttle switch using the procedure in the book then if you still have issues they'll be much easier to narrow down.
