Stdt Headgasket?

Recommended Posts

Hello, trying to find out for sure whether my head gasket is gone or not.

I recently replaced the radiator and steel coolant pipe so had to bleed the system but the bleed screw on the thermostat is snapped off, I instead took the hose off the thermostat and bled it from there (is there supposed to be a constant stream of water coming out of here? Because it only spits out a little every so often so I'm wondering if there's still air and the water pump isn't working properly?) I left the cap off the header tank and ran it for a while to see if any more air would come out, but if you rev it with the cap off it spits out alot of coolant - headgasket gone? It had a brand new head on ~10k miles ago but has been run on just water for a wee while and may have cooked it when the old rad burst?

Cheers ????

Systems supposed to be pressurised and with cap off the boiling point is back to 100 degrees and no pressure therefore it's gonna try and expand

If coolant smells of engine and has a film on it I'd start worrying

As long as coolant doesn't pee out with cap on it'll sort itself out-just keep an eye on it (like we're supposed to but never do lol)-air bubbles if it's not massive normally work their way back to tank
