Head Gasket Kit?

Recommended Posts

Bassman

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a headgasket kit or a good supplier as there are too many options?

It is for my 1990 Ltd Edition 1.9 GTi.

Happy to go to a Pug dealer if people think they are better quality as I only want to do this once!

Will also change inlet and exhaust gaskets and valve stem seals.

Thanks

Rob

Many folks here will probably say Payen sets. I've used a few Motaquip full sets which used to be good value. My last HG was an OE 'repair' gasket from peugeot, slightly thicker due to getting close to maximum skim. Pricey but worth it imo.

I have recently used Payen standard gaskets, no problem at all with them. sourced from local motorfactors (roughly £20).

The valve stem seals were sourced from local engine machine shop (roughly £10) but also available from PEugeot or Citroen for £20 ish.

inlet gasket I recent used one on a friends engine which I bought from Peugeot - that was around £5 (it was a fibre gasket with sealant around the ports - last motorfactors item did not have this sealant)

Most old school engine reconditioners etc would say elring first, payen second

Due to price I've used payen and never had any issues

Get decent bolts mind

Yeah ! just wanted to say - Erling first if you have choice , then Victor Reinz , and Payen .

Also , 'Goetze' brand makes really good quality gaskets and seals .

OE supplier for the gasket material and seals was/is - Meillor and Corteco .

All those brands are excellent quality , the only one I would not touch are Moprod which just do not look good . Might just be worth buying a full gasket set as it will include everything and the unused parts will come in useful one day .Most kits come with 2 inlet manifold gaskets , fitting the wrong one will cause terrible running problems .

Thanks folks. I will have a phone around when I am back in the country. GSF do a full kit for £61, but it doesn't state who makes them.

The last kit I bought from Gsf came as a British Gaskets set. I think I only paid about £30 using a code. Everything was in there including valve seals. Never had any problems with it.
