No Vacuum Advance Unit On Dizzy

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 1.9 GTI. Is it supposed to have a vacuum advance unit? Been reading a lot of threads here about them, but my car's distributor does not have one. The throttle body has a blanking plug on the bottom fitting. Car runs fine generally speaking. Fuel consumption is between 24-27m MPG. Should I get a vacuum advance and install it to the dizzy?

Is it a catalyst equipped car with Motronic management? They don't have vacuum advance as ignition timing is ECU controlled

Yes it is a 1990 catalyst equipped car. ECU I assume is Motronic since CAT, but I haven't looked under the dash to check. Thanks so much for your reply btw. I was getting a bit worried because all the 50 odd distributor detail diagrams on Service Box show the vacuum advance capsule as part of the assembly. Strange to me that Service Box doesn't show any distributors without the vacuum advance.
