New Addition - Topaz 1.6 Gti

For the last few months I have been in contact- some call it pestering a guy who first posted a few photos this car on another site.

He has it 14 nearly 15 years and it was his first car, he was initially very reluctant but with some gentle persuasion I managed to get a chance to go view it. I was praying he would sell as I had to catch the boat and no other way planned to get home. So after selling my graphite 1993 (to make way for this one) I headed for the mainland.

Low and behold I seen in his garage a very genuine 205. Topaz was made for one year in 1990 so is slightly

Rare(er)

It fell foul of a few max power mods like sub and sound system but bar that it's all there.

Covered 57k miles, original service book all stamped up to 40k, has vast history etc with it. This one is definitely a keeper and I cannot believe he actually has trusted me on taking care of it.

Few things to do but will be seen at a show or two over next year etc here's some pics, I'm sitting in Birkenhead at the minute lol

Just done a 100 mile trip and never missed a beat. Totally loving this one gone to leave it pristine!

Basically all the lights where looking slightly tired and I really wanted to freshen it up, i also removed the k&n and put on the standard induction. It really won't need much else, a new standard exhaust, a detail and a section of drivers seat cloth and it's very good at that

All fitted and some spot light driving protectors also!

It was time for a quick wash and a few snaps! I got some g techniq today to seal trims at a later date

It really needs a good going over and swirls removed but I'm very happy anyway at the minute

Very nice :) I do like Topaz - hence I bought one myself - although mine's not as tidy as that appears to be.

Are you planning on putting some standard numberplates back on in place of those Max Power-esq italic ones?

Hi ant! Yes I'm the process, I've found an image of original dealer 'Blackshaws' burton on Trent plates & rear window sticker so I'm going to get those reproduced to get fitted. Also need a repair section for the bolster. The last owner was 6'2'' and sore on the little bolster lol

It is indeed tidy verging very tidy bar a few wee storage marks etc. None the less a great purchase

As above, new plates will make a huge difference.

The thick red un-fused wire coming off of the battery (presumably there for the sound system you mentioned) looks like a bit of a fire hazard to me, I'd do something about that ASAP! It looks like it could melt on the exhaust manifold...

Thanks everyone.

The Lucas ones I bought from farmer - craig Morrison a while back. I was going to use my valeos but thought the Lucas would do fine for now just to freshen the front up.

They have become scarce since then

its been a fun few months, had it at a few local classic shows and on a few trips around the coast. I got my dealer plates & window stickers made up and fitted. Managed to source a working period clarion headunit at a reasonable price.

The drivers seat is next on the list, i ordered new material and a foam to fix it so hopefully over the coming months get that sorted. still need to remove the alarm and the sound system some eejit fitted, oh and source a walker exhaust or something similar as that tail pipe is getting on my nerves. it has its imperfections and various storage marks and dents bar that its a work in progress and i want to get the use out of it as much as possible at the same time. here are some photos from a few weeks back when we had a nice spell of weather.

i ended up in contact with the original owner of the car and it was nice to hear some stories of when he owned it. he seemed glad that it was still on the road and going well.

Not much to update on this it's been parked up the last few months! Had the dent guy out on Friday and removed anything he could find! New back box and a few other bits to tidy up for the coming year, here she is in all her glory ( this was before any dents were removed for the hawk eyes )

Hi, lovely car. My 205 was supplied by Blackshaws and I'd love to get some reproduction dealer plates like you've done. Nice period touch. Could you tell me who did them for you please? Thanks in advance.
