Question About Forged Pistons

Recommended Posts

jamie_1992

Been looking at upgraded camshaft options for my xu10j4rs and some says you will need enlarged piston cut outs or forged pistons

So does having forged pistons eradicate the need for larger piston cutouts or is there a limit at where you'd need to modify the forged pistons

The camshaft I was looking at were Newman ph4 with 280 duration

Yes, most forged pistons have very deep cut-outs. Sometimes this can be a disadvantage as it wastes compression ratio, which has to be re-installed with a dome. In any aftermarket build however, you really need to check piston-valve clearance.
