Knock Sensors

Hi all,

tried searching for an answer to this problem but couldn't find anything too specific.

Basically the car had been down on power for a while and very sore on petrol, then I remembered that I had code 44 (knock sensor) showing before the MOT last November. I took the K-light bulb out of the dash incase the MOT tester would say something about it, but because I removed the bulb I totally forgot about it.

But anyway I have code 44, so I removed and cleaned the knock sensor and tested it. It was putting out voltage whenever I knocked the surface I had it resting on (like it should). Had the battery disconnected, wired everything back up, connected battery and the light went out when I started the car up. However it came back on about a minute later. Could the sensor be knackered or do I need to reset the light somehow?

Any help greatly appreciated

You need to solve this one as the ignition is retarded severely while ever code 44 exits. I'd be checking wiring continuity from plug back to ECU, then test another knock sensor.

To clear the codes, disconnect battery for 2 mins. If no codes exist, you'll get 12 (start) and 11 (finish).

Cheers for the reply. I'll get stuck into this asap. No chance of finding another knock sensor to try so may have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Wiring will be checked out first though

I've got plenty. How much do you want to pay?

would imagine an XU7 one would work as well given its an alloy block and mounted on a stud, XU10 might even work.

Ok, things aren't going my way lately it seems. Fitted the knock sensor and code 44 cleared ok, but now code 54 is coming up, which is ECU failure afaik.

To top it all off I walked past the car today and stumbled against the wing morror and broke it off :(
