Steering Ball Joint Stuck

Recommended Posts

kachel

I have released the steering ball joint from the wheel side. Now i didn't succeed in releasing it from teh steering bar where the steering ball joint is screwed in to. I already tried locking pliers but no result. How does it work with heating up to release the steering ball joint from the steering bar?

You need a big set of stilsons.

Or there is a proper tool for them, I've got a Facom one like this:

You wont manage it with locking pliers (mole grips I guess you mean?) because there is a lock washer that requires quite a lot of torque to overcome.

As said, large stilsons. Crack the joint between rod and end before releasing the ball joint from the hub, and make sure the rod can rotate freely in the gaiter too.
