Some of you will know this car well,

It took a knock last time out and being sat up for a while.

I bought it a few weeks back with the hope of running it in the Irish Rallycross Championship 12/13.

Engine out last week, ready to go off to the repair shop at the weekend,

Ill keep it updated as I get it back to its former glory!

Car is in the body shop at the moment,

Picked up a 1600 gti shell that will be used for lining it all back than on with the new fiberglass wings and bonnet.

Engine is going to be re built along with the box with a new Tran x all going well.

Aiming to have it all back together by the summer.

That looks very much like a Gutmann Turbo Look 2 kit, but the lower quarters look very thick where it meets the door

Well after months of hassle with various people/parts, the 205 is finally ready for paint!

20121018_122028.jpg

I had been busy with my 1.6 8v stockhatch getting it ready for the beginning of the season which is this Sunday. Anyway its back straight now primed up and heading into the spray booth next week. While it was there I decided to completely strip the car and give it a re spray, getting rid of the French flag painted down both sides, new dimma bumpers, front wings, fiberglass auto bonnet, gutman grill etc.

20121018_122040.jpg

I have being sourcing parts for the engine re build over the past few months too so that's nearly ready for assembly.

My orignal plan was to have it ready for the beginning of this season but gave up on that idea over the summer and decided to have another crack at the stockhatch championship. Hopefully get it running by Dec/Jan for a few test days and fingers crossed the first track day of '13 which is mid march.

20121018_160758.jpg

It has been a long project but hopefully its back on track now (wouldn't think it by looking at the photos but im going to keep telling myself that anyway!!)

Any questions/advice, good or bad always welcome,

Peter.

Car still not sprayed, joys of getting someone you know to do it!

Anyway picked these up last week,

Not in the most perfect condition but are straight and will do nicely for Rallycross adding to the 2 sets of TD ( slicks, semi slicks and wets )

Finally after months in the body shop for various reasons I picked the 205 up today, delighted with how it turned out. Just took a few quick photos of it. Gonna be a busy man over the next few weeks!

With the car back in the shed I have made a list (a long bloody list) of work that needs doing.

I bought a re conditioned 1.9 gti box from Pug-ham and he kindly posted it to Miles who is going to fit a 4.4 f/d and a shinny new 3J drive-line plated diff.

Block is in the pipeline too just waiting on a set of S16 pistons and rods which should be here next week so I can get cracking on the assembly. On the christmas shopping list is a satchift and I must start thinking about what clutch and flywheel im going to use.

1.9 gti gearbox is being put together by Miles this week with a 4.4 and a 3j driveline diff.

I have all the bits for the engine now too so assembly is in the process on that.

I need to get my head around the wiring now. The loom I have for the ecu is matched for a standard interior loom which is not present in this shell so it will need altering.

Still undecided on what clutch and flywheel to use.

crumbs, are you really really short?!

looks kinda weird running that low at the back, I guess there's no engine up front yet?

Bit of a squeeze alright Mei!

The rear is on coilovers and dosnt budge. I'll be changing the suspension setup when it goes rallycross as it's way too stiff.

No engine in yet.

Got the Rad, fan and oil cooler fitted today,

Adjusted the fan shroud to lower the rad and fan to allow some more room for the throttle bodies.

Awaiting delivery of a new rad so used an old one for setting it up.

Waiting on the crank to be balanced and pistons pocketed which should be done in the next week or two. Once there back I can get the engine assembled.

Miles is still working on the gearbox but hopefully it will be on its way over in the next few weeks.

I had a quick look at the wiring and im not looking forward to it. The emerald Ecu loom connects to a standard internal loom which this car hasn't got anymore so a lot of head scratching to come!

A fair bit of work to do there. Just after seeing your doors are fibreglass, if you are ever needing replacements, there is a guy in the North here near Dungannon that has the moulds for doing 205 standard doors. I think he also used to make the kits for the likes of the Rwd converted cars over here with the flares etc. Do you not need to run a steel drivers door in the Irish rallycross then? Nearly sure my fathers friend, who has a Volvo said he has to run a steel drivers door up here for rallycross.

Just take your time with the wiring and try not to melt your head with it. Doing it neat and tidy takes a lot of hours work, that you don't see unfortunately.

Would you have any contact info for him?

Ill have to check out the fiberglass doors, I know roll cage door bars are a must but it doesn't mention doors in the regs.

I use standard steel doors in stockhatch but thats for obvious reasons

Had a look and he has a website there. http://www.fibretech.info/contact.html. I haven't had any work done by him, or don't know his timescale, as most of the people I've met that are in that trade, the fumes go to their head. He was dead on when we met him a 3/4 years back, but I do remember him showing me the moulds he had for 205's. He knew what he was talking about, with the parts shrinking and panel gaps etc, once made.

Thanks for that Richard,

Ill see can I get in touch with him, always handy to have a spare set of panels, especially for rallycross.

No hassle. Yeap its a standard rear axle with no torsion bars, cut and re welded to achieve some rear negative camber,

Shocks are available from Gaz and have a rose joint top and bottom.

After looking at the pictures of where I located the oil cooler I realised it would be blocking most of the air flow to the throttle body filter so spent the day changing the layout of it

20130102_155235_zpsb8afe73e.jpg

Managed to drop the rad a little more too which will give the filter more space.

Pretty much ready for the engine now which I should have all the parts to assemble by the weekend.
