Brown Multiplug Confusion

Recommended Posts

Here's a picture of the brown multiplug as it is in my car. Just want to double check what everything is.

BIG red: Switched positive

Thin red: diagnostic/K light

blue/grey: tacho

Yellow green: ?

white: ?

Had some problems with the mashup of wiring that came attached to the Mi16 engine, and thought I had it all sorted. since the engine is out again for a new box I thought I'd go through the whole loom again properly and see if I could make it all work 100% (couple of the guages were a bit ropey).

As it is, assuming what I've listed above is correct then the other end of that plug has been incorrectly wired on the old engine before I got the car (the two red ones are wired in the other way round) which has lead to a GREAT deal of confusion, and also meant needing an extra wire to the coil plug for the engine to spark.

I know some cars had the starter motor going through that plug, but mine uses the fat blue cable on the 9 pin plug, and all the rest of those are wired correctly.

The yellow/green wire is an earth. Is that "the brown multiplug" the one from around the TB, as it looks more like one of the ones from under the dash? I have a white wire on my mi and that is for the fuel pump.

yup it's under the dash. I had thought the yellow/green one might have been the earth from the ignition amp, as I'd traced it to there but wasn't 100% sure. had thought the white one could be the fuel pump, but had no way to check it. Cheers <_<

most importantly, are the 2 red ones as above? big one switched positive, small one K light? how could I check/test them to see what's what in the dash itself?

I agree with what's been typed, and there is a detailed pin-out on several threads for both of these under dash plugs; the 6 and the 9 pin. I will try and find it for you.

BUT...surely YOU can test an earth and whether a wire is permanently or switched live, even with 2 bits of wire and a bulb <_< ?

I probably wouldn't worry about the K-light thing.
