Emissions Problems

Recommended Posts

swordfish210

Hi, i'm having some problems with the emissions on my 405. I bought it with the problems of a rough idle, stalls when the throttle is released and wont pass the emissions test for an MOT. Well i took it to a friendly garage and they said it'sbeen badly neglected over the years and they're picking through loads of problems but so far they have (thanks to a new exhaust gas recirculator solenoid from welshpug) sorted the rough idle and it no longer stalls if you rev it then lift off. Only problem is now is that it will pass the emissions test but the more you rev it the more the emissions come up and the lambda reading goes through the roof.

Nothing is coming up on the fault code reader so it's more than likely mechanical, so is there anything that they should be looking at first that could cause this problem specificly on this car? Thanks. Mark

so it passes the normal idle but not fast idle test?

ok, so run through what has been changed.

EVAP solenoid for charcoal canister to prevent air leak. (not exhaust gas ;) )

Lambda?

Coolant temperature sensor?

Both Lambda and Coolant temperature sensor can be tested with a multimeter.

The Lambda and the coolant temp senders are working fine, they've been checked allready. If the car had been chipped then do you think it would cause this problem?

I did have a quick thought today about this. If the car had one of those s*itty ebay resistors fitted would this cause these problems?

Coolant temp sensor. But I don't recall seeing anything extra there when James had the car.

Just to follow on from this, the car passed the MOT today :D:D:D:D:D I had a new (read salvaged) fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator fitted and 1 new injector. This got the emissions at 2000rpm down enough to get a nice pass reading from the test box. However at 2500rpm the emissions start to climb as does the lambda reading again, also the engine management light comes on  So out of; the other 3 injectors, the AFM or the ECU what is likely to be causing this? Thanks.

Why did you only buy one injector? Why didn't you get the four serviced? The other three are probably still dribbling and/or blocked.

If you need injectors cleaning I know a chap in Devizes who does them.

The cap was cracked on one of them and when it was removed the cap fell back in to the engine...took about an hour to dig it back out. So since i only needed one and they cost £83 i only bought one.
