1.9 Gti Baffled Sump Options?

Recommended Posts

Perky

Im doing a trackday in 3 weeks and would like to try and sort the loss of oil pressure problem i had on the last trackday.

Only had a problem on the corners so assume its down to the lack of any proper baffles in the standard sump. Oil pressures good when stationary.

Whats my options, is there a baffled sump fitted to any other models i can use?

Ive seen kits on ebay for about £90, they anygood and could i make my own? (if so anyone got any templates?)

Cheers

I had the egg box in one of my Mi's and certainly was hard to surge it, but not impossible.

What suspension are you running to make an 8v surge that's come good work. On pretty hard sus and semi slicks all day at cadwell park we never managed any surge (mech gauge) is the oil level topped up enough??

Any particular corners on any circuit??

Otherwise oil pump and sump from any "modern" 16v engine will do it.

Looks like the Peugeot Sport item Peugeot sport use to sell.

MrG have you used it in a mi 16 engined 205 on slicks?

non BMW baffle LOL.

I have it on my 8v 1.9 and it runs 888's, so far no surge issues.

Im running Spax adjustables up front (unsure of spring rating, but pretty hard), and standard 1.6 beam with Pi dampers. Was using Toyo's last time out at Castle Combe. Was getting surge there as most corners are fairly quick and long.

If i use a later model 16v sump will i need the pick up to suit?

The pickup will fit just fine in the Mi sump...same same. But I´m not sure it is enough to get rid of the surge when dooing track day on sticky tyres.

MrG: Have you done anything else to avoid surge?

no mate, I have an uprated pump (as per normal) and the baffle, all's been well. What else is there to do? Mines an 8v 1.9 though.
