they are made of a specific grade of metal, and then go through a toughening process

Chris Penrose (309pug) does them at £300, heat treated and powdercoated, don't know if these are.

Damned cheap compared to Peugeot Sport.

Could be the old 205 parts place but someone else selling them?

I asked what processing the bars had once manufactured.

Reply as below:

"The material is hardened and tempered to the 'T' condition, we have sold alot of these bars and everyone satisfied."

This means nothing to me, can anyone shed any light?

For e.g. EN24 is plain EN24 material, EN24T is tempered EN24.

So it just means that the metal is tempered, rather than a special spec?

Is this an acceptable standard for torsion bars though, or more info required to work that out?

It's good enough to be used as a spring material, yes, provided it's done properly of course.

Yeah, it'll be likely be the original manufacture that did them for parts, just a different seller. I will have a word with a man in the know...

Any update on getting the info?

Hi

I don't mean the crash the thread, but I'm also interested in torsion bars for my AX. I realise that you can obtain them from the Peugeot Sport boutique at around £400+ ish but am also curious to know the difference between these and the cheaper alternatives on offer.

I am no metalurgist but have been around long enough to know that tyres are not just 'black and round'...I'm guessing that a similar rule applies here in that you get what you pay for, it's just curiosity wanting to understand the differences so I can make a balanced decision.

I also tried the eBay source; below is my question and the response...

Hi

Please excuse what could be seen as a rather ignorant question, but who manufactures the torsion bars and to what standard?

Clearly these are less expensive than comparable items from Peugeot Sport so am curious to know what materials are used and how the spring rate values compare.

I presume that different material qualities will have a bearing on their performance and that it's not just down to the actual diameter of the bar.

The application I'm looking for is a pair od 21mm torsion bars for AX/Saxo/106

Any information you can provide would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Julian

Hi

We are the manufacturers and we are an engineering company in Leicester.

The bars are made out of high tensile steel hardened and tempered to the 'T' condition.

We sell alot of these bars throughout the UK an Europe and we have had no negative feedback only positive where they have said the bars have improved lap times.

Price for a pair of 21mm torsion bars for a saxo would be £190.00 delivery £20.00 in the UK

Thank you for your enquiry

It still doesn't answer my question so was wondering if you'd had more luck at all hence ambushing this thread :D

No more luck at all, just got the same "T" condition thing.

On the basis they have no more info than that, I'm going for the ones Chris (309PUG) sells.

Half as much again but have a lot more trust in the seller. Just now trying to work out what diameter to get. Sure as hell won't want to be buying another pair...
