i have a 1.9 engine to put in my 205, and a seperate 8v loom to fit to this engine, only im struggling to identify where the connectors go :(

i cant find any wire numbers on them so the haynes manuals not much help - so any ideas on any of these please?

for starters - the dreaded brown multi plug :P

there are 6 wires going in - from no 1 - no 7 on the plug (right to left in this pic):

1. brown (to female spade)

2. orange (to female spade)

3. white (cut off and not used)

4. grey (to female spade)

5. light blue (cut and bypassing the brown plug - to female spade)

6. yellow (cut off and not used)

7. empty

ooh thats ace - thanks davie :D

so ive got starter, alternator and oil pressure light and gauge  missing oil temp and the coolant ones - thats cool :P

the other bit im struggling with is more spade connectors - but with thicker wires :P

coming from the main loom are

2 thick green wires,

1 thick red,

1 thick yellow with green band

1 thin grey

the 2 green, red and grey go up to spade connectors, the yellow with green band goes to the ignition amp plug

4 spade connectors as follows:

1 green and the grey thin wire from the loom into one

red from the loom into another one on its own

1 green from the loom into one with a thick yellow wire comes from the ignition amp plug

another red on its own coming from the ignition amp plug

any ideas what these 4 spade connectors are for please? ta :(

Anthony

They're for an early style wing-mounted wet coil. Usually, reds go to the positive side of the coil, and the others should go to the negative side, but worth double-checking.

Probably be easiest just running a wet coil

top of this picture you can see the two reds to one side, and the other two to the opposite side as Anthony said

where the earths attach

and here's an amusing one -

th_PICT0080.jpg

it'd be quite a bit of work to alter the loom to the later arrangement as the ignition amp is on the opposite side of the engine bay, and the plug for the coil is different, easiest to get the earlier cylindrical coil and the alloy plate for the ignition amp to be bolted to as shown.
