Thermostat Housing Mods

I thought this might be useful info. I always remove the heater bypass tube on XU9J4's, even when fitted to Mi16's. They're unnecessary in a warm climate, not applicable to a 205 and just another point of possible coolant system failure. To remove the tube from the thermo housing I heat around the inside with an oxy torch. You'll soon feel the tube loosen and you'll be able to withdraw it by hand. If the housing is for a race car, I also remove the tube on the side for the heater matrix. These can be a little more troublesome as you don't have as much leverage. A careful nick lengthwise with a hacksaw will remove it if the heat doesn't work. Once removed, tap both holes with a 1/2" BSP tap and fit a bung as shown with some sealant.
