Anybody Tried One Of Those Strut Braces From Nl?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

I've seen them on the SIMBA facebook group. I beleive it's a guy from the netherlands that makes them.

Cant find a link at the moment but i'm sure a few of you have seen them.

they have two bars instead of a single one, and triangulation between the two.

Just wondering if anybody has one and can give an opinion on them?

To me they look like they'd be more worthwhile than you're OMP type ones, if a little heavier.

I dont like the 205 gti plated bit, but I'm sure that can be removed

That sounds interesting, ive not seen them.

it would be good to see how it looks in the bay, im having to look for a different strutbrace as the omp one i got doesn't fit over my carb and filter :(

Found the link now

http://www.ebay.nl/itm/peugeot-205-gti-/290952902665?roken=inUUbm

(mods note: Its not me selling or anything to do with me, just giving an example)

It says it fits standard engines with open filter. I would assume it wont fit over a tu3s with k&n as I remember my old car had that set up, and even a whimpy little strut brace hit the top of it.

Looks as if it would fit on a tu5 (thats what I've got in my car), so I'm tempted, but its quite a chunk of cash to spend if it doesnt fit

It looks like a pretty serious strut brace :) it should keep the front in check with the added weight you got up front

doesn't help my situation lol. Ill have to keep looking and hoping

It looks like a gate to a farmers field. I wonder how much it weighs?

But? It has 2 pivoting points, surely that's not right?

It must be pretty heavy. But I have no idea how much stress goes through strut braces, so its hard to say whether there is any point in it. Although I do like leaning on a strut brace when working under the bonnet (dont we all?)

I made the assumption that the pivots were just for fitting it, and then they wouldnt pivot after they are tightened down? I could be talking out my arse there though. That was how my old strut brace worked, but that was a cheap flimsy thing.

Ask him to send a tester bar and we'll be interested. Get him on the forums

Welshpug asked the weight on Facebook, I'm sure he said 6kg!

4.9kg apparently, mind you I have no idea how much a OMP or similar would weigh

OMP is probably a kilo, maybe a little more. Even my Colin Satchell strut brace has only two bolts and I'm sure it does the job fine. To be honest the one you are asking about looks overkill

Sorry my mistake it is actually 3.9 kg not what I put up there!

Apologies

Those are some not-very-triangulated triangles there.

You're missing the point, it's quadangulated, if three is good four must be better

Some belgian engineer (we dutch people like to make fun of them) called 'Vierendeel' is famous for his vierendeel-girder... one heavy over-engineered supid truss system using squares... Not the most ingenious kind of engineering...
