Oil Cooler

Hi iv got the stand alone type oil cooler on my gti thats leaking. Its not connected to the coolant. Two pipes fron the sandwich plate to a small rad. Is this a must have? Or will it be just as good without it. Its a 1.9 1987 no power steering.

Fine without it although you may find your oil temp rises higher than normal

For road it should be fine, just keep an eye on the oil temp.
