Best Way To Restore Spoiler?

Recommended Posts

mrfirepro

Received two spoilers this week.

We're going to try Tim's without the texture finish to see what the results are.

as they arrived

P1040809_375x500.jpg

interestingly Tim's spoiler did have a texture to it in places (we're thinking OEM finish was flat)

Anyway usual process as above, finished article

As you can see the damage to the surface has not been totally covered and is much more obvious when compared against the textured finish. My opinion is that the textured finish is better, it may not (questionable) be OE finish but it does look better (IMO). It may be possible to get the non textured finish flatter by using more filler (I used 1/2 a can) but the texture does hide any damage done by the elements over the years.

Now we're going to do a couple of Ph2 spoilers (to texture or not that is the question?) will update with photos as soon as they are done.

The textured finish is definetly the way to go it seems.

Interesting how the spoilers seem to have degraded in slightly different ways!

Good work Paul!!!

Just finished these this afternoon and really pleased with the results. Sorry for the delay the suppliers sent me the wrong cans out and had to wait another 4/5 days.

all the photos are here (sorry muddled up with some from my build, spoiler ones are at the end)

the finished product (front spoiler is grey, other two are black)

All that remains to been seen now is how they stand up to the British weather.

Thanks to Alex, Craig and Tim for giving this a go and making it economical.

They look fantastic Paul - many thanks indeed for giving this a go. My 205 is kept outside so it'll be a good test to see how it hold up to the weather - sure it'll be fine though! :)

As above, they look really good! Im confident they should last a good long while, UPOL is a pretty decent brand, and Ive never had any trouble with any of their products! Looking forward to getting it back on the car! :D

Do you reckon this would work on plastic trim like the sunroof trims? Obviously with a smooth finish?

I don't see why it shouldn't, have some left if you want to give it a go... :)

Saw this linked on another thread recently, and wondered if there was any feedback on how the coating has performed over the last 18 months (Alex, Tim & Craig)

Mine is still looking as good as the day you did it. The car has spent 99% of its time in a garage mind so hasn't been left to the elements.
