Standard Front Springs Paint Marks

Recommended Posts

Tom Fenton

Just a bit of info here really

I know there have been various discussions on here previously about the paint marks on the standard front springs and what they ought to be

I was looking at the standard original legs removed off my car the other day, I hadn't really looked closely at them before.#

They both have clearly identifiable twin yellow paint marks on them

From what I've seen, 1.9 GTi is two yellow marks and 309 GTi is two blue marks.

Two yellow marks on mine being off a Ph2 1991 1.6 GTI. Car was/is totally standard with no evidence of the springs ever being changed.

For what it's worth, I've seen the two yellow marked ones on both Phase 1.5 and Phase 2 1.9 GTi's.

Didn't have the known history of yours Tom, but I've no reason to believe they weren't original to the cars, especially having seen it on multiple examples.

Some kind of quality check prior to fit do you think?

No, the paint marks are to differentiate between different springs.

All Servicebox has is part numbers and the paint marks, not what exact model each is for, hence why it comes up frequently.
