Engine Choice

Recommended Posts

simon neil

Hi Guys looking for a bit of advice. Not sure of best engine choice. Mi 16, later Mi 16 with cast block or Gti 6. does the gti6 have a cast iron block. You seen to be able to pick up later mi,s alot cheaper. i am looking for an engine i can build to put out about 190 to 200 bhp. I would like to run on carbs as I have some dellortto,s allready. The car would be used for track days and eventually tarmac stage rally.

what you think.

thanks

They're all cast blocks, the 1900mi is ally, the later and the 6 are cast iron. All have there merits, I recommend you do a search as there's loads of threads on the topic.

I'd personally not bother with the dellortos.

I'd look out for a know good engine (any of them) coming up for sale if you're on a budget.

A good engine on standard management with a short ratio box and plated LSD would be the way I'd go rather than chasing bhp figures.

What's the purpose of the Car?

Don't forget - 16v's are for pussays.

Where in Bridgend you from Simon?

XU10J4 - all the benefits of the earlier XU9J4 head with full floating, oil jet cooled 2L bottom end. They make 190-200hp easily. As Allanallen said, don't overlook the importance of the LSD and shorter gearing first however.

Probably correct, but they're cheap and easy to recondition.

Hmm, £420 direct conversion, shame about all the import duties etc taking them nearer the price of decent forged pistons.

These are locally machined from Mahle blanks.
