Anyone else get a glimpse of the list? A lot of cars that should never have been scrapped. Though 32 Gti's is a shame, there are some other jems that shouldn't have gone. There is one lancia Delta Integrale on there. Not to mention 14 quattro's.

In 2009 if you had a ratty GTI scrappage scheme would of been great news! Honestly surprised it's not way more than that.

And someone scrapped a Mexico! Haha, the vin had to be worth loads by itself.

I ended up getting an engine from a scrap yard that went through the scrappage scheme. 1.9 turbo technics, original with plate and all. Head gasket had gone which is why it went for scrap.

Notice how the cars listed are subject to massive variances and errors in their model designations? How hard can it be to record these by their correct model? Oh hang on.....DVLA?

There was a badge engineered Mexico in the mid nineties. It's a shame about the older stuff as even if they were too far gone (although they had to have t&t for scrappage) there was a lot of useable parts.

What ever happened to them as there were pictures if them sitting out in the open, I imagine they did get crushed, but I bet a few cheated the system for parts.

I believe they are all still alive at an old airfield in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire.

Apparently the government don't quite know what to do with them because the cost of scrapping them, in particular the removal of fuel, oil etc (and then disposing of that), would be so high!

I also agree with the comment on the correct data; how hard can it be?!?

The multiple ways of spelling 'Felicia', as in Skoda Felicia, are particularly impressive.

I work with someone who is a member of that 32 club.

He had a phase 1 1.6 GTI, 80,000 miles, one owner from new and pretty much rust free. He scrapped it because his wife wanted a new car. She refused to drive it because the clutch was too heavy.

I'm never getting married!

There are 1213 on the list as simply '205' so some of those might have been GTIs too.

As for the spellings, this is one time when the DVLA aren't to blame, the forms were filled in by dealers so the standards vary wildly. There are seven Nissan Qashqais or whatever they are called but they were obviously the new cars people bought rather than the scrappers but they were put in the wrong field.

The 'Mexico' would probably have been the Mk5 (or maybe 6) Escort version... A far cry from the Mk1/Mk2 Escort ones and no great loss to be honest!..

I would have thought that the V5s would have to be submitted as per usual when you scrap a car, so poorly filled in paperwork shouldn't have been an issue as surely their data woukd have been based on V5 info.
